Your first mistake: using a Netgear. Neatgear=crap. Your second mistake: using Roadrunner. Unless I'm mistaken, that's SBC (aka AT&T). AT&T=craptastic. But that would explain your connection problems. AT&T Internet is about as reliable as anything Microsoft has made in the last decade. Microsoft=ubercraptastic. But Monk you made the biggest mistake of all. A router and a modem are the exact same thing. Why would he be connecting 2 modems together.

A router is the thing that connects your home network. A modem is what actually connects to the Internet. It's just that nowadays, most routers do both. For older routers, you have to also connect a modem, as older modems only have 1 Ethernet jack and no wireless. Mine was like that until it broke and I had to order a new one from AT&T. Now I have their crappy 'default' modem and it sucks balls...I want a Wireless-N one.
